Who We AreThe Duncan Skating Club has been one of the largest clubs on Vancouver Island since becoming an official Skate Canada Club.
We offer a variety of Learn to Skate programs with professional instruction so that our members can develop core skills and develop a love of figure skating or hockey. |
Our HistoryPlans to have a skating club started in March of 1978. The arena complex was under construction, and although not completed until December of 1978, the ice was ready for the first season of skating on October 11, 1978.
An application to Canadian Figure Skating Association was underway and on September 27, 1979, DSC became an official probationary club. On May 15, 1980 at the Annual General Meeting in Montreal, Quebec, Duncan was granted Permanent Membership. The first President of the club was Martha Roberge and the Club Coach was Penny Baker. There were 310 skaters the first year, 270 girls & 40 boys. The registration fee for the fall season was $35.00 and ice costs were $15.00 per hour. |
